The Pros and Cons of Reading Books on Relationships
By busQuest on Apr 19, 2008 in Entertainment

Are you the kind of person who devours every relationship book that hits the shelves of your nearest bookstore? If so, you should probably stop and ask yourself if it’s something that’s really benefiting your relationship. There are pros and cons to reading books on relationships and you should consider them carefully if you don’t have the happy relationship that you’ve been seeking.
On the plus side, relationship books can give you some insight into the things that are going on in your own mind. They can be a starting point for pinpointing your own relationship thoughts. And they can sometimes serve as a terrific launching pad for helpful conversations with your partner.
On the negative side, these books often target the insecurities of the people who read them and end up making them feel inadequate instead of empowered in their relationships. Additionally, they often plant ideas in the minds of their readers that serve to undermine the relationship that they are in by creating concerns about the relationship that aren’t based in the reader’s reality.
Books of any kind are neither good nor bad. If you benefit from reading about relationships, keep reading those books and enjoying them. However, if you’re not getting the results from them that you want, you might want to ask yourself why that is.
