Choline Is An Essential Nutrient

Although humans can manufacture choline in the body in very small amounts, it must be consumed with food or to be a part of a vitamins complex to maintain normal health and wellness. Choline used in the human body to produce lecithin or phosphatidylcholine.

Choline and its metabolites have few very important biological functions. It is used in the synthesis of sphingomyelin along with phosphatidylcholine and phospholipids. Phospholipids, sphingomyelin and phosphatidylcholine are all structural components in the human cells. Two other metabolites of choline known as sphingophosphorylcholine and platelet activating factor (PAF) are known to be cell signaling molecules. It means that they are responsible for proper communication between cells including cells in the central nervous system. So if you buy vitamins - you should consider this strategic element in them as well.

Choline is a precursor for acetyl choline which is an important neuro transmitter involved in memory, muscle control and other important functions.

Nutritional scientists believe that by increasing the amount of choline in the body, more neuro transmitter acetyl choline may be produced, so age relating memory declining should slow down.
