Considering Franchise Opportunities

There are lots of different types of business opportunities available for the entrepreneur.  You could start your own business from scratch, become an affiliate partner of a parent company, or run a franchise of a larger business chain.  Each has their own advantages and disadvantages.

Franchise business opportunities are important to consider because they give you the opportunity to capitalize on an existing brand.  You don’t have to build your own reputation from scratch, but simply open your franchise and let the business pour in — something like that, at any rate.  For instance, Arthur Rutenburg is a luxury home builder in Florida, but there are many Florida custom home builders that take this name.  They are franchises, and although every one of them is their own builder, they get to benefit from the widely known reputation of the parent company — an award-winning Florida custom luxury home builder.

On the flip side, though, opening a franchise does mean that you need to follow the business pattern set forth by the parent company.  For example, if you open up a Subway franchise, you have to offer the same menu as all of the other Subways.  Sure, everyone knows the Subway brand, but there isn’t much to set you apart from other Subways.

Opening a franchise is definitely a viable business opportunity, but you should research the company thoroughly, and consider your decision carefully, before jumping onto the bandwagon!
